Step ()  When looking for a replacement spa pump follow these steps:
(a) Look for the label provided by the original electric motor manufacturer (Figure ) shows an "A.O.Smith" label indicating 230 Volts and Amps are 12.0/4.4 indicating 12.0 high and 4.4 low.
(b) Identify the voltage required (115 volts or 230 volts).
(c) Most motors operate at 1725 RPM for low speed and 3450 RPM for high speed.
(d) Identify the amperage and ALWAYS choose a replacement motor with the same or higher amperage on high speed.

Example: Figure shows an "A.O.Smith" label indicating 230 Volts and 12.0 Amps High Speed (Amps are 12.0/4.4 indicating 12.0 high and 4.4 low). The label also shows the wiring diagram indicating how to hook up low speed and high speed.
Note: Your motor was made by one of these manufacturers "Century", "Magnetek", "A.O.Smith", "Regal Beloit", "Emerson", "Franklin Electric", "GE", "Centurion", "SNTech", "Dynatech", and "LX". The manufacturers are required to show the same information on their name plate label.

How much does it cost to replace a hot tub pump?
Replacing a hot tub pump is not expensive when purchasing direct from a spa pump manufacturer. Click here to see.
At the time that this document was written, Acura Spa Systems offers prices for new spa pumps starting from $126.00 to $293.00. Hot tub owners can email pictures of the existing pump(s) to sales@acuraspa.com. Our technical department will find a replacement from the different series of spa pumps we offer in our online store.

Rebuilt Spa Pumps
It is not a good idea to rebuild the motors. New motors are not expensive and are safer then rebuilding an old spa motor or even a pool motor. Companies that rebuild hot tub motors, are not the original motor manufacturer. Most do not have the proper jigs to reassemble the motor with the proper concentricity between internal motor parts. Motors are also equipped with ON/OFF switches. If the switch is not well calibrated, it may generate a snubber network and that may cause nuisance tripping of the GFCI. Many spa owners have experienced GFCI nuisance tripping thinking it might be the spa heater or the spa control or even the GFCI itself. They start changing all these other spa parts until they realize it is the rebuilt motor. In addition, in the process of rebuilding the motor the thermo overload can be damaged, unless it is tested for overheating, no one would know that the thermo overload is damaged until the motor is burned and that may cause a fire in a portable hot tub.

Hot Tub Pumps Near Me
UPS, Fed Ex as well as the USPS have made it easy to transport a pump direct from our factory in Riverside, California to any location worldwide at a very affordable price. Your near me hot tub pump dealer will charge 4 times more. In addition, the local hot tub pump dealer did not make the pump, he had to purchase it from the manufacturer in California and ship it to his location. Consumers are paying for the freight anyway since the near me dealer will add the freight to his cost in addition to his profit and sales commissions. The hot tub pumps near me are very expensive, at least 4 times more than our G5 and G4 pump series.

Hot Tub Pump Parts
There are many manufacturers of hot tub parts. Waterway Plastics is an injection molding company for pump wet ends and impellers. Waterway Pumps injection mold the Executive 56 and the Executive 48. Our G5 spa pump series is a direct replacement to all Executive 56 and our G4 spa pumps series are direct replacement to all Executive 48. Balboa Water Group is also an assembler of spa pumps. They purchased the line of spa pumps from Pentair Pumps. Years earlier Pentair Pumps purchased the Vico line of spa and hot tub pumps and later sold it to Balboa Direct also known as Balboa Water Group. Once again, the G5 and G4 series are replacement to all Vico pumps also known by their marketing name as Ultra-Jet pumps. Our wet ends and impellers for the G4 mount directly on the Ultra-Jet 48 frame motor and our G5 wet end mounts directly on the 56 frame motor.

Used Spa Pumps
Used spa pumps are usually a problem to purchase. There must be a reason why this used spa pump was rejected the first time. To properly test a used spa pump, a technician needs to load the pump to maximum water flow, measuring the amperage not to exceed 10% over the name plate amperage as specified by the motor manufacturer. The pump must run continuously for 6 hours without tripping thermo overload in a controlled ambient temperature of less than 50 degrees centigrade. To do all these tests it requires well calibrated and expensive instruments. In addition, and for safety reasons a dielectric test must be performed on the motor at 1500 volts to pass the 5mA measurement according UL 1081.

Waterway Spa Pumps
Waterway spa pumps are found in many spas and hot tubs. Waterway has been supplying pumps for the hot tub market since 1991. They produce many series such as the Boss pump, the Executive 56, the Executive 48, the Viper swimspa pumps and many others. Our G4 and G5 spa pump series are direct replacement to the Executive 56 and Executive 48.

LX Pumps is the largest Chinese pump manufacturer. They export their spa pumps to the US. These pumps are also known as HydroMaster spa pumps labeled as the “best deal” at Spa Depot web site. They are known for their low prices since they are imported from China. You cannot tell the difference between an LX pump and an Aqua Flo. Aqua Flo was one of the US major pump manufacture in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s.

NOTES:
Pump Horsepower:
(cd) Horsepower is the continuous duty output power of the motor or the pump load to the motor.
(spl) Horsepower is used by the hot tub industry (for marketing reasons??).
(bd) Horspower is the motor's maximum load (exceeding this load will burn out the motor).

Model numbers with suffix (-1) indicates the motor is single speed.

Model numbers shown on Table 2 and Table 3 indicate discharge straight up.
Model numbers with suffix (-3) indicates the discharge is to the right.
Model numbers with suffix (-4) indicates the discharge is to the left.

No O.E.M. dealers or distributor discounts with limited offer prices.

All pumps are not provided with unions, unions sold separately. Unions are identified by plumbing dimensions (like 1.5" or 2.0"), but these numbers ARE NOT the physical outer pipe dimensions. These numbers indicate the waterflow volume going into and out of the pump. Please use part numbers as identified for your application.

All electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician.
All plumbing work must meet I.A.P.M.O., UL 1563, and all local codes and regulations and must be performed by a licensed plumbing contractor.
